Course Description
The course examines economic/financial principles as they apply to health policy in the public and private sectors. It will analyze current economic issues in terms of historical background, present status, and possible solutions. The structure, conduct, and performance of the hospital, physicians, pharmaceuticals, insurance, and long-term care industries will be studied in depth. An economic analysis of the managed care industry, the uninsured, and integrated delivery systems as well as an analysis of health care systems in other countries will be conducted. An economic analysis of public policy options for major components affecting the healthcare industry will be utilized. Equivalent to EC4405 with same topic. Prerequisite: (EC2201 and EC2202) or EC2221.
